Sister Lena Genstme
Condom Ministry Chairnun
Sister Lena Genstme, "The Condom Queen", "The Rubber Maid", "The Lucid Light of West County", was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on October 23, 1944. A retired nurse, Sister Lena was drawn to attend a General Meeting of the Russian River Sisters after seeing a presentation about the Order by Sister Nova Nilla. At this meeting, she was so impressed by the friendliness and community spirit of the membership, that she declared herself an Aspirant and began participating in their activities right away. Sisters Ida Claire and Frances A. Sissy consented to be her Big Sisters, and Nova her Mother, during her Novitiate.
It is Sister Lena's belief that people should endeavor to be present, and enjoy every moment of their lives, while remaining blameless. She is effusive in her praise of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, The Russian River Sisters, and all Nuns everywhere who exemplify their vows through compassionate activity.
She is presently the Lead Nun for the Father Butch Whacker Memorial Condom Ministry of the Russian River Sisters, which provides condoms and safe sex information free of charge to individuals, bars, food banks, health centers, and pharmacies in West Sonoma County. Her work with the Order has brought her great joy and satisfaction, and her association with her Sisters great affection, comfort, and inspiration.
